Clipper 60 - Round the Island
The J.P. Morgan Round the Island Race is one of the world’s largest and most famous yacht races, its origins date back to the Americas Cup, first raced over the 50 mile course in 1851. The first race (as we know it) saw just 25 boats start from the Royal Squadron line off Cowes. Since then the popularity of racing around the Isle of Wight has continued to grow year on year. Today more than 16,000 sailors from the elite sailing fraternity to families as well as people who are trying their hand at sailing for the first time, will get up early (with the first start at around five am) and head west about with 1,700 other boats round the Isle of Wight.
This is your opportunity to join approximately 16,000 sailors at the start line of this iconic race on 18 June 2011 and sail aboard one of our 68 or 60 foot ocean racing yacht. race on 30 June 2012. The yachts will be racing in Class ‘0’ against some of the world’s greatest sailors and fastest yachts including the Volvo and Open 60 racing yachts. As one of the first to cross the start line, you will witness one of the sailing world’s most breath taking views as the sun rises behind the fleet of 1,700 yachts jockeying for position.
The Clipper yachts create a huge visual impact on the start line, providing a perfect branding platform and a lasting impression on clients or employees onboard.
There are the new Clipper 70 fleet; Clipper 68s and Clipper 60s available for the 2012 J.P. Morgan Asset Management Round the Island Race, and with matched yachts to race against the competition on the water will be extremely high.
The Clipper 60s are the original Clipper Race fleet which took part in the first four editions of the event and between them have raced almost half a million miles.
